88Boadrum - an unprecedented aural and visual experience, on the same day in New York and Los Angeles. 88BoaDrum is the natural evolution of 77BoaDrum, one of the most talked about and critically celebrated music events of the past years. Supported by Nike Sportswear, 77BoaDrum took place in Brooklyn Bridge Park, where Boredoms and 74 hand-selected drummers from New York’s underground brought life to Boredoms monumental vision through an original 77-minute composition. Boredoms are known as musical pioneers who for over 20 years have continually pushed sonic boundaries and inspired musicians. Their albums and their performances defy categorization, each one a completely unique event. This year it is 88 drums and 88minutes of pure awesomeness... not only is it happening on NYC at 8:08pm, but also along the west cost in LA at 8:08PM est. IF you have not got a ticket sadly you are out of luck suckers and there is no bridge this time to peep the event!

I saw this band last year at the south street seaport free show with Au Revoir Simone, and although i went there to see Au Revoir i was more impressed with Metronomy.
They quickly became my new favorite band for that summer.

Make Music New York is a new live, free musical celebration across the city that took place for the first time on June 21, 2007.

On that day, public space throughout the five boroughs – sidewalks, parks, community gardens, and more – became impromptu musical stages and dance floors, and social meeting points. Thousands of amateur musicians, in every genre, played on the sidewalks for the biggest crowds of their lives. Professional musicians performed for new audiences, who came out from under their headphones to hear unfamiliar groups risk-free. And everyone was invited to sing along and enjoy the first day of summer.

The first MMNY included 560 free concerts with 1,927 musicians. We are planning an even bigger festival for Make Music New York next year, on Saturday June 21, 2008.

WHERE DID THE IDEA COME FROM?

Make Music New York is based on France's Fete de la Musique, which has been a great success for 25 years. Since it was inaugurated, the festival has become an international phenomenon, celebrated on the same day in more than 300 cities in 108 countries, including Germany, Italy, Egypt, Syria, Morocco, Australia, Vietnam, Congo, Cameroon, Togo, Columbia, Chile, Mongolia, and Japan.

I Am The Heat

Brooklyn, NY based I Am The Heat will release their 2nd EP, The Future Doesn’t Need Us in July of 2008. I Am The Heat are a post-punk art rock/garage rock band with an explosion of melodies, hooks and danceable bass lines. The Future Doesn’t Need Us mixes funky bass lines, disco drum beats and eclectic guitar work to back the pleasant lead vocals of Jameson Edwards.

There is a bit of a lo-fi quality to The Future Doesn’t Need Us, ala The Figgs’ early work, but as the EP progresses to songs such as Silver Skies and Tonight (I’ll Save You), a little more polish is evident. Dream Machine is ultimate garage sound, and Your Monsters is almost purely danceable power pop. What Would Lou Reed Do is a frenetic exercise in pure post-punk pop and is by far one of my favorites. They defiantly have catchy tunes that keep my feet happy tapping away and they are all so adorably cute to boot aside from their completely amazing covers for both records.

Live, The Buddy System grabs the audience by the scruff of its collective neck and throws it into a strange, colorful world where cats can fly and bunnies divide asexually like amoebas. Their songs explode with all the energy you'd expect from the soundtrack to such a wild scene. But maybe "soundtrack" is the wrong word. Neither the music nor the animation take a back seat to the other. Instead, they are inextricably linked, each image synced up with a sound, like the two are playing a game of Mirror and forgot who had been leading and who had been following. The Buddy System stands in the center of all of this insanity, dressed in the colors of CMYK, surrounded by TV sets and glowing, plastic sheep.
